SHS Media Arts Showcase Night, June 2

SMASH’N, the Saratoga Media Arts Showcase Night, is an awards night that culminates all the hard work that our wonderful MAP students have done all year, from graphic design to short films of every genre. SMASH’N  will be held at the McAfee on Friday, June 2nd, from 6:30 to 9:00pm. Doors open at 6, and attendance is free for everyone. Be prepared for a show that’s out of this world!

Each year, MAP hosts SMASH’N, a media showcase of students’ work from throughout the year in an “Academy Awards” style presentation. This year’s SMASH’N will be an in-person event held in the McAfee Performing Arts Auditorium on Friday, June 2, 2023 at 7:00pm.

Speaker Series

Hey Falcon Families! Every year the Media Arts Program hosts a Speaker Series of professionals in the media arts and tech industry to expose students to the different job opportunities, career paths, and innovations in the field. The Speaker Series is a free event that is open to all SHS students and parents. Our theme is Virtual Reality this year, with three speakers specializing in animation and VR who have worked for companies such as Dreamworks and Nickelodeon. This year the series is on May 17th in the Annex from 6:00-7:30 pm. Please join us for this special night and step into the world of virtual reality!
 

Speaker Bios: 

 

Ting Ting Wu: A software engineer with extensive background in computer science and expertise in computer graphics. She currently works at Altspace VR to create VR experiences. Her past work includes working at Dreamworks as a lighting director and technical director. 

 

Monika Thakar: With an educational background in Computer Science followed by an MSc in Computer Animation, Monika's journey started as a junior artist at Dreamworks Animation. Monika has 12+ years of experience working on animated features and 2 years experience working on award winning VR short films and proprietary VR platform at Google Spotlight Stories. With all of that experience in tow, Monika is now exploring the world of Marketing and Branding at a non-profit organization. 

 

Kent Seki: Kent Seki is currently the Head of Cinematography at Nickelodeon Animation on the feature film Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, slated for release on August 4th, 2023. Seki most recently completed work as the Head of Cinematography on Paramount Animation’s 2021 feature Rumble. Previously, Seki worked at Dreamworks Animation as the Director of Previsualization on the feature animated film Boss Baby. In 2016, Seki was honored to be invited to join the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences in the Short Films and Feature Animation Branch.
